I have embarked on a business venture, which will hopefully bring in some income if not a lot of income. I have read various blogs where they say that you can make money by selling your own photos. I considered this option my self because I have an interest in photography and use to do it a lot a few years back. It would be nice to get back into the swing of things as well as earn some extra money at the same time.
This post will show you my journey in building a business in selling stock photos. So the plan seems pretty straight forward so far.
- I build a photography portfolio.
- As the portfolio grows, I regualrly post the photos on stock image websites.
- Then earn royalties on each photo that has been sold.
Building a Photograpy Portfolio
What pictures should I be taking?
When I first thought of this I was listing various categories of photos. Then later I thought that a better option would be to keep it organic by regualrly visiting various locations where I can naturally develop a list of categories from the place I was visiting. Instead of trying to find a place that would suit one or two category ideas.
The first place I will be visiting will be a place called Eynsford Castle and that will be next week. Eynsword Castle seems to be the ruins of a Norman Castle based in Kent. The types of photos that I think I might get there would range from historical, architectural, landscape, nature etc. So as you can see there is a possibility of getting at least four categories of photos from one place.
Stock Image Websites
Where to upload my photos to sell
I have done my research and there are loads of websites that I can choose from. My idea was to post my photos onto many different websites, which would increase my chances of selling my pictures and making money.
I have also found out that people who sell their photos on these types of websites can earn up to 50% in royalties.
I will keep you updated with the progress of my journey next week.
